Yaz & Yasmin Drug Lawsuits
Representing Clients with Ferocity Since 1979
If you have taken a drug and later it was announced that the drug has possible dangerous side effects, you may be entitled to receive compensation for your injuries. Kalfus & Nachman PC has represented many clients just like you who have been harmed after taking a drug prescribed by their doctor.
Yaz and Yasmin (which differ slightly in dose) are birth control pills manufactured by Bayer Healthcare. Both of these drugs contain the same form of estrogen, ethinyl estradiol, which has been used in birth control pills since the 1970s, but Yaz and Yasmin also contain a new progestin called drospirenone, which can cause an increase in potassium levels in your blood.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned that increased levels of potassium in your blood can be dangerous.
Please call our Virginia defective product attorneys at Kalfus & Nachman PC today (855) 880-8163 if you have taken Yaz or Yasmin and have been made ill.
Yaz/Yasmin Side Effects
While no recall has been announced, we are very concerned about the potential dangers of these birth control pills.
Reported side effects include:
- Blood clots in the legs, which is known as DVT (deep vein thrombosis)
- Blood clots in the lungs
- Heart problems
- Stroke
- Pancreatitis
- Gall bladder problems
Yaz and Yasmin have not only been prescribed for birth control; the drugs have also been prescribed to reduce water retention and bloating, symptoms often seen in women who suffer from PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder). However, when there is too much loss of fluids in the body, dehydration can occur; dehydration can lead to blood clots. Blood clots can lead to death.
Yaz/Yasmin Deaths
There have been a number of deaths associated with these drugs. From 2004-2008, over 50 deaths were reported to the FDA. These women died from cardiac arrhythmia, cardiac arrest, blood clots in the heart, blood clots in the lungs, and strokes. Some of the deaths occurred in girls as young as 17 years of age.
If you are currently taking these drugs, you should contact your doctor to see if you should be prescribed something other than Yaz or Yasmin.
If you live anywhere in Southwest Virginia, including Hampton Roads, the Peninsula, or anywhere else in Virginia or Northeastern North Carolina, and have taken Yaz or Yasmin, you may have a valid legal claim against the manufacturer of these drugs. Our Virginia product liability attorneys can help!
