What is Reckless Driving & How Can It Be Avoided?

An extremely serious traffic violation, reckless driving takes the lives of many every day. It refers to the state of mind of a driver, referring to a disregard of the rules for the road. In the worst cases, reckless driving may result in serious bodily injury, physical damages, and even wrongful death.

The following are some examples of reckless driving, including but not limited to:

  • Driving 25 miles per hour or more over the speed limit
  • Racing another vehicle
  • Avoiding a police officer
  • Passing another vehicle when visibility is limited on a two-lane highway

Reckless driving can very easily be avoided by partaking in safe driving practices, such as keeping a safe distance, making sure you aren’t distracted when behind the wheel, giving yourself plenty of time before you get to a final destination, and following all traffic laws. Taking in some time and consideration for both your safety and the safety of others on the road is one of the smartest decisions you can make--prevention is the ultimate protection.
