Diane Aluska, a mother of three, managed to push her 16-year-old daughter Jenna out of harm's way when she spotted a car quickly reversing towards them.
The mother and daughter had just attended Sunday Mass in Long Island when 80-year-old Ann Riolo mistakenly put her car in reverse and began accelerating towards them. The driver lost control and jumped the sidewalk.
Aluska pushed her daughter out of the way, who was clipped by the vehicle instead of getting the worst of the impact. Instead, the driver hit the mother, who was killed. The driver continued reversing out of control until she hit a fire department building.
Jenna and Ms. Riolo were treated for their injuries at Good Samaritan Hospital. It is not clear whether criminal charges will be brought.
