While the Volkswagen recall doesn't pose any danger to cars or their drivers, it's still seen major coverage in the news.Volkswagen Emission

Volkswagen is still working with government agencies to figure out the best way to proceed in terms of repairs, modifications and vehicle returns.

However, there are a few important facts you should know if you could be affected by the recall.

Why are cars being recalled?

Diesel vehicles affected by the recall were found with programming designed to “cheat” on emissions tests.

That allowed the cars to achieve higher performance/gas mileage while still meeting environmental regulations.

However, emissions from the affected cars do not meet the USA's Clean Air Act requirements, which is why they are being recalled.

So, are affected vehicles safe to drive?

Yes.

Which cars are affected?

  • VW Jetta TDI (2009-2015)
  • VW Jetta SportWagen TDI (2009-2014)
  • VW Golf TDI (2010-2015)
  • VW Golf SportWagen TDI (2015)
  • VW Beetle TDI and Beetle Convertible TDI (2012-2015)
  • VW Passat TDI (2012-2015)

What do I do if my car is affected?

As of right now, Volkswagen hasn't provided a solution or even a plan for owners waiting for compensation or wishing to turn in their vehicles.

However, owners of affected cars may sign up for updates at the link above.

It's important to note, however, that you should not be responsible for failed emissions tests.

While the lack of information from Volkswagen may be frustrating for drivers of their diesel cars, rest assured that the government and VW are working as fast as possible to fix this problem—and remember, your car is safe to drive.
